@edgarblythe,
Some of the better Silvio Rodríguez, with this song. The part where he sings "Oh, I kill it, and a bigger one appears. Oh, with much more hell in digestion" is my favorite Silvio moment.
Instead, his "love" songs that at the end turn out to be "love for the Cuban Revolution" are, IMHO, amongst the lowest moments in Latin American music. "Te doy una canción" is an example of those.
I Dream with Serpents
I dream with serpents, with sea serpents,
with a certain sea, ay, of serpents I dream.
Long, transparent, and in their bellies they carry
what they can grab from love.
Oh, I kill it, and a bigger one appears.
Oh, with much more hell in digestion.
I don't fit in it's mouth. It tries to devour me
but it is blocked by a clover in my temple.
I think it's crazy. I give her a dove to chew
and I poison it with my good.
It finally guttles me, and while I travel
in its esophagus, I go thinking on what will come.
But it destroys when I reach its stomach
and plant a truth with a verse.
