The quick witted Barry Jones was on an island half of the people on the island have to lie and half have to tell the truth But they all looked the same. When trying to escape the island Barry saw one man asked a single question and immediatly knew which way it was to the boat dock based on the man's responce. what question did Barry ask?
.... My discrete mathematics teacher asked this and it took me a while to figure it out yes quite a while.
Is Barry part of the people on the island? If so he knows if he is a liar or not and he could ask himself the one question?
There were only two people on the island: Barry and the other person. Either one could be the liar or truth teller. Barry knows where the boat dock is, based on the other's answer, whether they're lying or telling the truth.
I'm guessing the quesiton he asks is "which way to the boat dock?"
Assuming there are only two paths to the boat dock:
If I asked you, "which way to the boat dock?", how would you answer? The answer is the correct way.
^That couldn't work, cause the liar would lie, and say he was going to tell him the truth about the boat dock witch would be a lie, and the person who tells the truth would tell the truh to witch way the boat dock was.
This is a tough one to do because you can only ask one question.. hmm
And if it's only him and the other guy, Barry is obviously the person who tells the truth, so he knows right away that whatever the man tells him is the opposite.
But if there's more than one person on the island...
Im stumped than, ill get back to you.
