Heya, I was hoping anyone of you could help me! Don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but, Im doing a project about catholichistory and old cathedrals. Ive been searching the web for info about how the cathedrals were organized, how the abbés lived, who took care of everything in the actual cathedral, plus how they were built, if the priests lived in them and so on. But mainly about the priests in the 1600-1700 centuries.
I'd really appriciate if anyone could help me!

Thanks!

Dunno if you'll find what you're looking for directly on the site, but the richest, most authoritative web source for anything Catholic is New Advent. If they don't have articles satisfying your concern, odds are their list of links will lead you to a site that does.

Tomber's site certainly is the biggest information on the web.
(You might pay attention that it's a ... ehem ... bit old.)

I think, you can find the specific information you're looking for only inside local, regional sources - and perhaps not much online as well.

For England,e.g., this site has some info: English Catholic History since 1550

The Internet Medieval Sourcebook might be a help, to - although it's not exactly the period you are looking for.

This site (in French) gives an inside about "catholic life" ... pre-1500, though, as well.

Another idea to solve your questions would be a look from the "other site": what did reformators think about it, ...
And, of course, the various reports from the 30-years-war are excellent sources as well.

Are you sure you aren't confusing monasteries and cathedrals?

Priests wouldn't have actually lived in cathedrals.

Abbots were the heads of monasteries.

The top man in the cathedral administration would have been, as today, a bishop.

Correct, but especially re church history one hundred additional years of research make some difference, I suppose

The site may be old, but i don't think its fair to say/(imply) that it is 100 years old! Confused The internet wasn't around then!

By the way i said imply in brackets just to stop you coming back saying that you didn't actually say that **hehe** Laughing

Okay, 99 years then. ("Digitise" is the keyword - you can do such with even much older sources  )

[When you look at the footnotes and quoted sources, you really should have notice that they stop about 1904/5.]
