The lady is sitting nicely in New York. Some needs to wipe the rain off the lens of the wide shot.

If you right click on the camera image and then click Zoom, Full Screen..... very nice.

If you listen closely, put your ear right up next to the speaker....you can hear the New York City hatchlings conjugating Latin phrases.

Falcon News
2 April 2008 (posted on April 02, 2008)
Good Afternoon, everyone!

We are pleased to announce that while many of us were out enjoying the St. Patrick's Day festivities, J. Jaie had returned to 55 Water Street and was busy laying her first egg of 2008!

The second egg arrived two days later (3/19), the third egg just two days after that (3/21), and our fourth was laid on 3/23.

J. Jaie has been sitting quietly on her eggs since March 24th, and we expect that within approximately 32 days the incubation period will end and the young birds will hatch.

The father is yet to be identified as it is difficult for our engineers to precisely see the tracking numbers on his foot; but once this tag information is discovered it will be passed along to the Department of Environmental Protection, whereby we will learn more details about the father's birthplace, his age, and the different places he's been sighted.

Our live webcam is up and running, and will be available 7 days a week for all in need of their falcon-fix. Also, please feel free to drop an e-mail ([email protected]) and share your own stories and/or sightings of the birds' activities-- after the eggs have hatched, expect quite a bit more activity than as is at present!

Mebbe start hatching by Friday then, (March 24th plus 32 days). Mom was pretty active this morning about eight o'clock, moving around a bit.

Mama, like all nesting birds, has a "hot spot" on her breast which can be soothed by turning the eggs so the hot side is down and the cool side is up.

Not all nurturing instincts are prompted by love of progeny.

Mama was rearranging her eggs with an eye to her own comfort.

What a coincidence. Just a short while ago I was rearranging my eggs with an eye to my own comfort.

Yes. But the momma falcon wasn't doing the rearranging in the frozen food aisle at Fairway.

Very close. It was D'agostino's, and it was the dairy aisle. You see, I had this carton of eggs in my cart, but I didn't feel comfortable because the eggs were next to the cat litter, so you see, I had to rearrange my eggs with an eye to my own comfort.

I did get some stares later in the deli however, when I had to adjust my spicy italian sausage because I noticed it was crushing my walnuts.

Then later, in the produce aisle, I bruised my plums as I was rushing to get my hands on a couple o' nice melons.

Just let me know when this starts to get annoying.
