hi to all! i just joined recently. my problem is that i'm a rather slow keyboarder - i grew up with punched cards; that might give you an idea of my knowledge status. the problem is, i get disconnected by my internet provider(i think) if i'm too slow in getting the message posted. i noticed that in the help section it states that i should be in status "log me in automatically" - i think i must be ok with that because i can't even find it(or i might be asleep at the wheel - that is a distinct possibility). i have noticed that i can post to the clipboard - but how, do i get it from the clipboard to the messageboard if i have been disconnected? the internet provider usually redials automatically after a disconnect - but i seem to be lost in space thereafter, can i keyboard offline and zap the comments into the box after going online? sure could use your help. thanks to all! hamburger

Good. You tracked down the information about logging in automatically. So, are you being logged out of a2k only, or are you being booted off the internet entirely. The former involves the auto login; the latter is a concern with your internet provider.

Anyway, yes, you can do your composing offline, and copy to the forum.

I am probably at least as old as you, and i type very quickly. But i've had a lot of "ojt" with the use of personal computers, and to a large extent, i know what i'm doing. I get logged-off here all the damned time, and it really p*sses me off. I've learned to copy my posts just before i hit the submit button, so that i don't lose them in the very likely event that i get booted off.

Compose your answer in a text editor

Cut and paste to the reply box.

As long as you are only cutting and pasting the text it will work fine.

Fonts, italics, bold won't copy from Word to the reply box. All of that should be done after you copied the text or you can learn the coding phrases needed to do that and hand code it when you write your response.

I notice that you are aware of the auto login, but you indicate that you don't know where to find it. It is a box at login. Just click on the box. See below:

From note pad, all of the UBB codes for italics, bold, etc. work if you just cut and paste.

But that doesn't help if you get logged out every time you change the page. This is truly ironic, as i've had the worst day i've ever had for being logged off everytime i selected a thread to attempt to read. I'd be logged off when i reached the thread, and if i tried to log-in to reply, i'd get a page not available message.

It's now been an hour and a half since i posted my last reply in this thread--and this is the first time this morning that i've been able to visit and reply in more than one thread without being logged-off.

Other people's estimations of me notwithstanding, i'm not a dumby about these things, and the damned system falters and fails on an all too regular basis.

Yeah, I've lost a few replies myself. Very frustrating. I too copy before I hit submit. Just in case...
