How do I get cat litter out from between my cat's toes?

@kickycan,
My older cat is having the same problem. Soaking his foot in cool to warm water softens the clumps and sometimes even rinses them away. At least they become much easier to remove. The problem is getting Spunky (apt name) to let me put him in the sink.
