Are we talking "best" guitarists? Or best rock guitarists BTW?

I don't even know if weve defined what were talking about, I guess were just naming guitarists that we think are worthy of being named.

I can't say he's the best but Adrian Belew is a whole lot of fun. And the more I listen, I can see why Elmore James had such an effect on so many guitarists.

Has anybody said Eddie Van Halen. He certainly deserves a mention.

My problem with Edidie Van Halen has always been that his solos, while being technically brilliant, usually have little or nothing to do with the rest of the song. You gotta give the guy props on his chops, but...

I heard the Cars on the radio last night...Shake it Up. Elliot Easton's solo is phenominal, as is all of his work. Super tasteful, brief, and to the point.

Maybe I'm just getting old. Laughing

A simple solo that comes to mind is the one from "You Got Lucky" by Tom Petty...I'm assuming that it's Mike Campbell working the tremolo bar on a hollow body...perhaps a Gibson, because of the smooth rich tones.

Wachtel should get a lot more credit than he does... I've also been going through a James Honeyman-Scott phase lately. Like Elliot Easton, he packed an enormous punch with his guitar work, but was overshadowed by the "stars" in the band.
