President Bush's "surprise visit" to Afghanistan was caused by hot information on an alleged attempt upon him during a scheduled visit to Delhi, India where some 100,000 protesters, many of them Muslims, took to the streets to protest against US policy.
According to officials in US embassy to India, a huge crowd of protesters gathered around a hotel in Delhi, where Mr. Bush was due to stay during his three-day visit, being incited by Islamic radicals that arrived from Pakistan (half of them Pakistanis, others were Chechens) short prior to the event, which gave a convincing threat of an attempt upon US President. Besides, there were a number of telephone calls to the embassy in Delhi - an undefined person uttered threats in broken English with broad Caucasian accent.
So, US President's security arrived at a decision to make a detour to Kabul where things got a little rough too, as a few days prior that, prisoners in Pul-e-Charkli Jail got in a mutiny and seized hostage of a famous American journalist. To avoid further aggravation, the problem was resolved in a drastic manner -American Special Forces took the prison by assault, unfortunately, the hostage fell a victim.
