I read out about the Apocryphal Acts, and wondered the reason they were dropped from the Bible.... when they were supposed to be the '' word of God ''. The little i read didn't seem to be much different from the way the '' true ?'' Bible is written.
Thanks Ma.
A little help, but no explanation of why, in a easily understandable way.
There are lots of sites for the apocrypha, lightfoot. Just type in the books of the apocrypha in a search engine.
I am understanding that the books were NOT believed to be valid. I understand that they were written by imposters.
I understand that this was because no Hebrew version of these texts could be found. They were in Greek only and none of the writers claimed that the texts were divinely inspired.
Some religions have the Acropha in their bibles. Some between the Old and New Testament and some interspersed. Also, some books are omitted from some religions such as Catholic while they are included in other religions.
Well it certainly is amazing what/how/who decided upon material
as "divinely inspired". I think it is rather like the A2K thread on
the category of books; about the top 100 books of our times, as
listed by "some persons".
The who that made the decisions for us about
what is to be considered "divinely inspired" is equally
important as the story itself, or the material chosen as
"important enough" to be included. Not to mention that
over centuries, times change so drastically, that surely
the material changes to accommodate the current thinking
of every period in history.
None of the dozen or so major catalogues of the Christian scriptures dating from the second half of the second century to the latter part of the fourth century include the so called 'Apocryphal Acts'.
