Hi,
I am new to this site, which infact looks pretty good. I'd like to say hi to everyone here and we just might have a little fun. I do have a question though. I am doing an essay on social influence and how it affects your behavior and your beliefs. Mine is on Christians and their churches. (The building) Can anyone give me a hand on this?
bye yall,

When you say "the building" I assume you are refereing to the architecture. Could you be more specific?
christians and their churches
Thanks. I mean the churches (buildings) they come together in, say Sundays, Saturdays, etc. and their purpose. The whole thing is Christianity and their Churches.
Your topic seems so vague. Are you asking how and if architecture effects beliefs? Or are you asking about styles such as Romanesque, Gothic, and modern glass cathedral? I'm really not sure if the topic is architecture or religion.
Can you give us your opening paragraph to the essay so we can see where you are going?
The word 'church' literally means 'congregation'.
You are talking of buildings, I presume.
The most common characteristic of church buildings in general is the phallus, er, steeple.
Actually you can often tell what is most important to a civilization by it's tallest buildings.
Examples:
Ancient Egyptians = Pyramids = Afterlife
20thc. America = World Trade Center = Commerce
Mayan = Combination Temple & Palace = Rulers as Gods
wearehsf, an anthropologist named Amos Rapaport wrote extensively on the subject of architecture and behavior, addressing just the kind of question you are asking. His best know book is "House Form and Culture", 1969, but he had many other publications on this subject. Try googleing him and see what you can come up with.
