Quote: Catholic Church likely to abolish state of Limbo
It seems that a motivating factor in this is the high infant mortality rate in places like Africa, so the church wants to seem more welcoming in their eyes.
Things like this are why it's so difficult to take organized religion seriously.
Isn't it nice that you can just make it mean whatever suits your fancy!!!

Sorry, forgot to link to the article:

Well, if they were really into warm fuzzies, they could abolish hell, too. I mean, if a mundane stroke of the pen could eliminate limbo. . . .
And here I thought they had eliminated a dance.
I liked one of the headlines I saw about this: "Limbo goes to hell".

I think they should do it. They could covert some of the Baptist notsofaithful that just can't seem to keep from sinning no matter how much fire and brimstone they are threatened with.

I must have been thinking of Limbaugh , No more Rush, thatd be fine. I could deal with that.
Quote:To be "in limbo" was to be on the edge of happiness, suspended between delight and pain, feeling neither.
When I think of Rush Limbaugh, this stirs up a number of emotions; "the edge of happiness" isn't one of them. You Americans have strange associations.
And here I am, thinking that an article discussing the Church making a MAJOR change in the interpretation of their religion would spark an interesting and deep religious conversation.
Think they will abolish the fox trot as well.
I don't understand how they can decide to chane or ammend the religion. I wonder did they need a two thirds vote from the faithful to pass the ammendment.
Just an observation:
The Catholic Church is so convoluted in its theology, why should anyone be surprised?
Well, there is the majesterium, so-called, and dogma, so-called.
Dogma is not - or didn't use to be, amendable.
Majesterium, that is the teaching body of the church, was supposed to be able to be amended, in my day of avid catholic church participation.
According to Timber, though, on some other thread, much of the majesterium (I may be spelling that wrong, maybe it's magesterium) has turned to dogma under the aegis of one Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict.
Limbo was probably considered in this light.
I speak from the dark ages though, in that I left the church forty years ago.

True but are the rest of the religions any different?
Quizz-. Who said let he who is without sin cast the first stone?
To edit myself, I meant to say, "the teaching body of the church's latest views", should anyone be interested in following.
Ratzinger was interested in "streamlining" the Church. Hes been eliminating all sorts of redundant positions and duplicate bookkeeping. Limbo was outsourced .
