Welcome to the forum, al.
First sentence:
The Hebrews did not hope for a heavenly reward. So why should I read the remainder of your many words?
Don't understand the question...er...I would finish out of curiosity, myself...
Whoops, miscite--Matt 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your arighteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the bscribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Was saying Pharisees auto-denied entrance. Sorry if that came across funny.
Daniel 2:44 identifies the location of God's kingdom.
The idea of man-kind as guardians of the world and carriers of the Breath of God is lost in the idea of the "glory of God" and "imperfection and worthlessness." Absolutely nothing saddens me more than when a young man or woman falls prostrate and proclaims that he or she is "nothing" compared to God.
This is the way I see it...
Proclaiming our unworthiness and imperfection has nothing to do with our selfworth in my opinion. Acknowledgment that we are a sinner keeps us humble before God and others, yet selfworth comes from knowing God loves us. Admitting we are unworthy and imperfect is necessary for forgiveness. It keeps us from judging others imperfections because we admit that we too are imperfect. If you are going to hold a sinner accountable for being a sinner then you had better be perfect so that you are not held to the same account. It would seem christians must first forgive themselves before they can forgive others. Once they have accepted Jesus as their savior and received God's forgiveness for their sins they can "shine". Guilt no longer holds them back. They can love without judgement as Christ loved.
For the most part christians believe that only God is perfect. Becoming perfect to the point where we feel we are able to judge others is not only impossible but it is taking over God's job. Whatever actions christians take to better themselves and walk more perfectly with God has to do with growing in Christ's love to become more like Jesus. Love is found in forgiveness.
To err is human; to forgive is devine.

Different?
Only religion as dispensed by the Bible causes man to fear God. It is necessarily so because the evolution of religion through the Bible had a main purpose of controlling people which is best accomplished by fear.
i have my own religion/belief that differs from that contained in the Bible. It does not negate the right of others to believe as they choose to believe. What works best for them is what is important.

Thanks
Wow. that first post made me realise a lot. Having been brought up a Catholic hearing that I wasn't good enough, I find that really interesting.
Thank you.
