Quote:The Pentagon has produced detailed plans to bomb North Korea's nuclear plant at Yongbyon if the Stalinist state goes ahead with reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel rods, an Australian report said.
Citing "well-informed sources close to US thinking", The Australian newspaper said the plan also included a US strike against North Korean heavy artillery in the hills above the border with South Korea.
The artillery directly threatens Seoul as well as US troops stationed south of the Demilitarized Zone.
Pentagon hardliners said to be behind the plan reportedly believe the precision strikes envisaged in it would not lead to North Korea initiating a general war it would be certain to lose.
This is because Washington would inform Pyongyang that the bombing was not aimed at destroying the regime of Kim Jong-il, but merely at destroying its nuclear weapons capacity.

Gosh, I suppose all of that duct tape is going to be a big waste once the missles start flying...
If we were going to do it, it should have been done before the fuel rods were loaded. In that case, all there would have been was a hole in the ground and a bunch of mad people.
If we do it now, several thousand pounds (perhaps more) of very radioactive material will be released. I'd say the moment has passed.

Oh another great idea
"well-informed" in relation to the Bush administration has to be an oxymoron. As for "precision strikes", no doubt it will be done by the Yanks who killed UK soldiers in Iraq.
If the answer is "bomb everyone" what happens when someone "bombs back"? If anything, the message of Iraq to any dicatator is get something nasty and use it.
When will it take place, one day after the election or a month before the election?
Well, the Common Dreams link still works, anyway.
Voted yes. The U.S. has contingency plans for most everything, including invasion by Tierra Del Feugo, for all I know. As to intentions, I don't know, either.
Citing "well-informed sources close to US thinking" is a bit nebulous, isn't it, Pueo.
I think the world is just patiently waiting, watching us drop bombs on them. When we finally run out of bombs they'll collectively stand up, walk over, amd stomp us like a bunch of ants.
Guys! Before going off on your government, you might do well to dredge up headlines from last May citing N Korea's published threats to Nuke the US. Check it out. Try Google.
Add: Powell has been several times to the Far East to "inform" them that they can't have nukes. Surprised? Iran has been told too. Or stay here and get your intel from ringers and shills.
