Shocked Shocked So rabbits DON'T have a sense of humor? dlowan, I was making a joke. Ya know, kind of like well, I don't like your big words and you don't like my smileys, big girl panties time.

I gotta tell ya, my jokes lose something in the translation or something. Laughing

No, Momma A, the problem wasn't your joke, it was perfectly understandable. That is, if one isn't trying deliberately to find fault with your posts, like some lagomorphs may be doing.

Please stop stickin those smiley faces all over your posts.

Farmerman, some of us need to use the smiley emoticons, because (God forbid!) someone here might not get it if we make a joke, or might not understand our humor.

As I noted on Momma's Goodbye thread, there are a few stars here who can post whatever they want to -- and they can be as aggressive, obnoxious, condescending, insulting and belligerent as they choose to be. No one will challenge them. In fact, their fans will come on and tell them how wonderful, witty and right they are.

That can make it difficult to know where the boundaries are here. It can be confusing when you're trying to figure out what the A2K audience finds acceptable and what they deem "offensive."

After you've been here for a while, you can say to yourself, "Well, that's (insert name of A2K star)." They can say whatever they want to -- however they choose to -- and their adoring audience here will give them a free pass.

The rest of us have to tread more carefully.

That's why I give Momma credit, and I have a problem with the posters here who tried to make her feel like a "wimp" for wanting to take a break.

She came here the way all of us do at the beginning. She was an "unknown entity." She wasn't an A2K star with a big following of friends and fans.

She went on a forum with a "hot button" topic (Spirituality and Religion). She voiced her opinions and beliefs and stood by them, even though it must've been obvious to her early on that the majority of people here disagree with her -- and were ready and willing to challenge her.

I give her credit for that. That takes some guts.

Momma, I'm glad you're back. I hope to speak with more in the future. As far as I'm concerned, you've already demonstrated that you have plenty of grit.

Ya know, I love the smilies as much as the next person, but that one really pisses me off.

It must just kill the real smiley-phobes. Hee hee hee!

Stray, I agree with you completely. I'm glad someone else has noticed the A2K "star phenomenon." It's gotten on my nerves more than a few times.

Us cats have to stick together around here anyway amongst all the dogs and cat haters!

Deb has to look up words?

I....am....in....shock.

<refraining from using emoticon>

I have to look up words I find here all the time. Unfortunately, most of them are words Deb invented, so a dictionary doesn't help.

Oh! Hi, Momma! Good to see you came to your senses. Who should we work on next? <snort>

I know what you mean, Eva. And just when I'm sure she made one up, there it is, right there in the dictionary.

Lol!

Hell yeah. Less since Craven stopped posting, though....but I look 'em up all the time.

I get frustrated when I am reading a book, now, cos I have to get up and go to my dictionary, which often doesn't have the really specialised ones.

It's great.

My made up ones LOOK made up!

Oh, don't mind Gus. He's been hearing those voices for years. We think it's the whisky.

As far as working on him next.....

Well, er.

I don't think I'm that, uh, gritty.

Stray. AHEM , If you notice, Ive been here since 2002. Ive had runins with all kinds. I guess what I do is argue like hell and then asess my data at hand. If I find that my data is not compelling compared to my opponent. He or she wins, simple. Theres no losers. It depends how we can process the things weve taken in.

As far as the smileys and emoticons, theyre an abuse of power. Ive found that most of the least compelling arguments are done with rashers of emoticons, Many debators in some of the science (ok evolution v Creation) threads, use emoticons to "try to rub it in" Most of the emoticons are not quite symbols of benign emotions. The "happy guy" at the end of a particularly snotty phrase, looks to me like someone who is just trying to laugh at you.
I think many people know exactly that emoticons are
cartoon versions of "stick that in yer pipe d'bag" or "well heres to your idiotic assertions" I may be wrong but, I dont think so. Thats why I hate emoticons . They accomplish exactly the opposite of what you think they do. Take Joe Nation. Hes arguably the bestest writer on the boards. His thoughts are clear and he spins really great stories and threads. HE doesnt use emoticons. He doesnt have to.
I dont use em, (maybe once in a while like the bear does, in a long laughing line to let you know hes really pissin in his fur). Other than that, if you critically look at those emoticons, I think they are evil.
That big clown one is , well, just simple. Id rather have one of Pam Anderson rubbing her "personalities" on the screen like shes in a shower but , I think thats frowned upon.
