I have a great sunset photo that I took a couple of years ago; with an almost completely black foreground of trees and shrubs against rose-colored cloud. But there are a couple of pixels missing in the dark foreground, both very obvious.
I've checked my reference books (Digital Photography for Dummies, & Photoshop Elements) but neither one has any mention of missing pixels, let alone how to replace them.
Can anyone help?
I assume you mean a couple of the pixels in the digital file have no color.
In photoshop itself just zoom in on the missing pixels. Select them and fill them with the color from the pixel next to it.
Elements should be somewhat similar. I would guess you can zoom until you can actually see the pixels. If not, select the smallest amount you can and fill.
Can you post the photo that you have, here, TomKitten?
Or provide a link?
I might be able to fix it for you.
Thanks, Boomerang, but I'm going to try Parados' suggestion first. I haven't really worked with Photoshop so this will be a good learning experience. I hope.
I completely understand!
The "clone stamp" might be a useful tool to use to, Tomkitten.
You might want to practice on a copy, rather than the original file...Just in case.
Replacing missing pixels
You won't believe this, but I lost the original! Thank goodness I had printed out a copy, so I scanned it back in.
I fixed the white spots, which aren't really white, but bits of sunset showing through, and intensified the cloud color from rose to peach. It's quite good (I think).
I never really had the time to sit down and work with Elements, even though it came with my old camera as a freebie. Now I'm going to try and master it step by step in an organized way.
Thanks for all your help, and I'll be back with more questions, I'm sure!
I'd like to post a copy here, but can't figure out how to do it.
You have to have the image hosted on the web somewhere. I use
www.photobucket.com. Once the photo is hosted you can upload it onto this site very easiley.
Replacing missing pixels
I'm really stupid today owing to very little sleep. I've got Photobucket all set up (and thanks very much for the suggestion) and the sunset pic is in my album there, but I can't figure out how to get it to A2K. No doubt it's written out very plainly in their FAQ, but it's not plain enough for me this afternoon.
This part is easy....
Click on your photobucket image to make it big, then right click on it.
At the bottom of the menu there will be an option called "Properties". Click on that.
Another little menu box will come up -- you will find "Address" listed there along with the image's address.
Highlight the address, right click and chose "Copy"
Now.....
Come back to the thread here at A2K.
Type in something, anything, in the response box, then hit the "Preview" button below.
Click on the option "Image" and a little box will come up that says "http:........"
Delete that, right click, and chose "Paste"
The image's "address" will appear in the box.
Click "Okay"
Then submit as usual. Your image should appear on the thread!
Replacing missing pixels
OK, but I don't know if it will appear -
Well, it didn't work.
When I right clicked on Properties the menu that appeared had "copy" greyed out.
I wonder if Firefox is causing a problem.
Are you on a mac?
What might work better for you is to copy and paste the url in the box on Photobucket labeled "img". Just plop that here, and submit. Don't need to do anything to it.
No, not mac, but that might work anyway. I'll try.
Replacing missing pixels
Well, I guess it got there, but it's far too big. Which, unfortunately, showed me a couple more in the missed pixel department (
)
In case it is a Firefox bum-up I'm going to try Iapproaching via IE.
Oh I didn't explain that very well...
Sorry.
When the "Properties" box comes up, run your cursor over the address to highlight it, then left click and "Copy" the address.
