x^2-y^2= xy - y^2 (subtract y^2 from both sides)
(x+y)(x-y)=y(x-y) (factor)
x+y=y (cancel like terms)
but, since x=y (see step 1),
y+y=y (substitution)
2y=y (addition)
2=1 (cancel nonzero y)
Q.E.D.
