Certainly from the way you spelled the letter and from the observation there are a lot of Americans on this site....
Don't forget us Aussies, we write differently, particularly when it comes to words with "z's" in it where we use an "s".
Essentially that would seem to be a localized phenomenon. Perhaps it differs from State to State.
