You'll have noted that the Questions thread has taken a law enforcement turning. When our media state that "someone is helping the police with their enquiries", this usually means that they've got their man but he hasn't been formally charged yet. Is that euphemism common down-under as well.
Another aside - one of Ireland's most notorious gangsters is (and I kid you not) Patrick "Dutchy" Holland!!

"someone is helping the police with their enquiries" has the same meaning here. Our laws are adapted on the English system and I assume the same would be the case in Ireland?
