Using the Socratic Method

Here's an interesting teaching experiment in which a man takes a third grade class and teaches them binary (for those of you who might not know, it's a counting system based on two numbers instead of the usual ten). The catch? He can only ask questions.

Amazingly, he accomplishes this task in only twenty-five minutes. Another interesting tidbit is that if you don't already know how to count in binary, chances are that you will after reading through his process.

The Socratic Method: Teaching by Asking Instead of by Telling

If you're a teacher or a parent, have you ever tried teaching this way? Did it work for you?

Oh yes! I used it all the time when I was a teacher, and use it a lot as a parent. I think it's a great method.
