Word Transformation Riddle / Puzzle - Quite Challenging!

Reply Tue 17 Jan, 2006 05:55 pm
It is possible!

this is one of those riddles where you have to get from one word to another by changing only 1 letter per cycle, or adding / deleting a letter, but each letter in your row must be a correct word!

example:
bored > board
bored
bore
borea
boar
board

THIS PUZZLE IS DIFFICULT!:
Peach > Nectar
^go go go! it is possible!

peach
reach
react
nectar

That took about 30 seconds.

Why can't you just go straight from bored to board (e->a)?

INCORRECT.

from react > nectar??? you changed 2 things!!!

INCORRECT. ^also changing two things!

THINK:
you can only change 1 letter OR DELETE / ADD 1 letter.

(or as in the literal or as in ONE CHOICE.)

I added an n. That's one change. What is the other change?

Bored to board is also one change (e to a).

You see, I did THINK (and observe). Your example includes borea to boar. A natural conclusion to draw is that in addition to change/delete/add, rearrangements are allowed at no cost.

oh dear lord
oh wow i'm so sorry XD the example was faulty. (the example was posted by a friend, i never really examined it....)

the fault is that rearrangements are NOT ALLOWED. that should have been made clear... sorry!

heres a fixed example (i'm doing this off the top of my head)

bored > board

bored
bore
bare
bar
bear
beard
board

^there. that one works... XD neway now try to solve it! (i apologize!!!)

Do you know the solution? I tried working backwards from nectar. All I can get is:
nectar -> nectary -> sectary -> sectuary

I assume proper nouns are not allowed.

^ 2 changes. (remove e and change r to n)

Oh well, i actually do not have a solution, it was something i got on a nother puzzle site! time to send a ranting flame-mail to the owner of that site!!! Fun!!!! i'm great at these!

Neway, thx for trying... closest so far was nectary, but sectuary is where i dont think you can get much farther... lol but i got what i wanted out of this topic!

Neway during the process of this experiment i found that

"YOU CANT GET OUT OF DEBT!!!"

try it!

debt > deb? det? deet? dest? dubt? DEBUT - but where to then  ? fun stuff!

Neway farewell!

The only thing I found for setar were acronyms:

SETAR Self-Exciting Threshold Autoregressive (financial dynamics)
SETAR Sequential Electronic Timer and Recorder
SETAR Senior Engineering Technology Assessment Review

The word has to be a word by itself
