Atheism a minority in the USA

I was trying to sort out my comment and thought about recent developments here at A2K/

Quote:
My 2 cents is that the current National political climate surrounding theism has frustrated the atheist camp, feeling a little of a minority on a national level and recently feeling that creep in on A2K the atheist Island does not seem as much an island as it may have a few months ago, and very possibly a few organized uprisings became the recent uproar.

Quote:
According to Barba Research:
Atheists and agnostics comprise 9% of adults nationwide. (2005)
85% of Americans self-identify as Christians. (2002)
11% of the US population identify with a faith other than Christianity (2004)

You get a little of the idea - sure if there were a higher percent of vocal
atheist here and a silent but becoming more vocal group of Theist; in the given political setting of today there might be some unease with status-quo.

Probably more thoughts later

There is plenty of room for all persuasions, but trying to turn a2k into a church is a travesty.

husker, I'm not sure you've noticed, but there's this strange "world wide" aspect to the world wide web which makes me wonder what you point was.

Well a large percentage of those involved in theistic discussion at A2K are not in the USA.

Here in Australia I'm pleased to say that 25% identify as atheist.

Brittain is even better with 44%, other parts of Europe even higher.

It does seem as though a deliberate recruitment of American Christians bombarding A2K could be a possibilty.

I'm not - but let's say I might think for it on some days. I've had my fill of being suspended and don't intend to do things that would cause my membership harm.

despite the occasional banter and brushes there are a many of these folk I have a certain fondness for even thought they really tinkle me off sometimes.

A deliberate recruitment of American Christians? Can you expound on that, eorl?

No not really Momma, it's just a suspicion, and frankly there's nothing really wrong with it either.

It seems as though the nations who are poorest have the lowest numbers of non believers. America being an odd exception to the rule...

America being the richest and most powerful nation on earth...and yet having a lower rate of unbelievers than Mongolia or Kazakhstan. Christianity being the leading religion in America by a landslide....I'm beginning to see as others see America.

There are other exceptions....see if you can find them.
