I've never been a fan of Campbelltown (I grew up in Liverpool - an adjoining city), some parts are nice I guess but a lot of parts aren't. Originally a rural centre it grew very rapidly from the 70s acting largely as a dormitory satellite for Sydney and has suffered for it. But I'm not one for large population centres and suburbs from horizon to horizon.

Australia wide unemployment is very low - you may not find work in your chosen field but if you have transferrable skills you will find a job.

Most people I've met in other parts of the country, who originally came from the southwestern part of Sydney, on finding out I was from there also, say 'So you escaped too?'

If you want a more rural setting keep going south to Mittagong, Moss Vale or Bowral.

Live somewhere that you can get public transport to work. You DON'T want to have to drive in Sydney's peak hour traffic.

Campbelltown has trains and several stations. Time for a memory game:

Campbelltown - Leumeah - Minto - Ingleburn - Macquarie Fields - Glenfield - Casula - Liverpool

Campbelltown to Botany would be a great commuting pain!

Campbelltown to the city is bad enough - but then to get out to Botany - you'd need a bloody cut lunch!

i guess it's a bit of a nightmare Botany then. could you suggest any other area's where the prices's of property are reasonable.I have been looking st andrews and minto, but they are out that way aswell.
They are providing me with a company car so i dont mind travelling, but the wife and the young un need some sort of local town, for shop's and playgroups etc.
Thanks RIC.

Ric

Depends on your definition of reasonable, and what you want / need.

Sydney is quite a spread out city and, even driving that distance could become tiresome very soon.

Do you need a house with yard, apartment, townhouse. Buy / rent? Interests outside work (I understand some people have outside intersts...)

If I had the choice I wouldn't live out that way and work at Botany. Perhaps you would do better to look at something on the south side - say perhaps Engadine, Heathcote, etc. But then, I'm not too sure how the prices compare.

With more info, I may be able to make slightly more sensible suggestions (well - more sensible than I usually am, anyway Sad )

ps where are you from??

Hi i,m looking for a house with 3+bedrooms and a decent yard, i,ve noticed out that way minto, St Andrews and Cambelltown it's very cheap.Just what i'm looking for as i am renting out my home in the UK for the next couple of years so that money will be tied up.My max at the minute will be around 350k.
The company are paying for a apartment for the first three months, but i wanted to get it to my head the areas to look at first.I know my budget is small but i,m not one for apartments and highrises and would rather travel and have my own space if you know what i mean.
The company are sorting the visa out now so it should not be long till i'm soaking up the sunshine (cant wait but so much to sort out)
You asked where i am from, i from the north east near Middlesbrough, a town called Redcar.
Thanks for your advice, you cant get enough.
Thanks again
RIC.

Middlesbrough! Hope you're looking after schwarzer and viduka for us. Campbelltown to Botany is a pretty nasty commute - easily over an hour each way - I'd think.

Although whereis.com.au thinks it's only 46 minutes: http://www.whereis.com/whereis/mapping/geocodeAddressesForDirections.do?brandid=1&fromStreetNumber=&fromStreetName=&fromPoiType=&fromSuburb=campbelltown&fromState=New+South+Wales&fromLocation=-34.06926%7C150.814075%7C%7C%7CCity+Center%7C%7CCampbelltown%7CNew+South+Wales&toStreetNumber=&toStreetName=&toPoiType=&toSuburb=botany&toState=New+South+Wales&toLocation=-33.946729%7C151.200595%7C%7C%7CCity+Center%7C%7CBotany%7CNew+South+Wales&modeOfTransport=2&x=39&y=12

What are prices like in the Revesby, Panania, East Hills type areas?

well - Mark Schwarzer isn't too happy there! Planning to PO!

There's a reason houses in the areas you mention are so cheap. Some of thiose areas are far from desirable.

I looked on domain.com.au at houses in the Helensburgh, south of Sutherland area, and found some possibles - but not too many. Sydney has the most expensive real estate in Oz, but you gets what you pays for.

The Campbelltown area can be pretty barren and isolated, but.....

Have a little trawl around domain.com.au - to see what's offering. Can you consider a townhouse in a better more convenient area? Parks to play in rather than backyard?

$350K doesn't get too much in Sydney, I'm afraid.

Schwarzer was on the bench on the weekend - and bro lost 7-0 to Arsenal. Nice timing.

What's a reasonable house price in middlesbro? Pound is worth $2.40 isn't it....

yes i've been looking around and have found a few possibles, in different areas it's a good job i'm a bit of a handy man.
As for the BORO 7-0 and we had another Australian youth keeper in goal Brad Jones, what does that say for Australian Keepers.Mark Viduka, we are trying to keep him of the pies.
As for average property where i live it's about $350k to 400k for a three bedroom semi or a duplex as you will call it.The problem i have is i am renting out my property for a couple of years in the UK, so money is a bit tight for now.
