I am wondering if there is a place here on the forum for authors who have books coming out to mention them. I will have one out in April this year, so I wanted to ask before giving the details about it. Thanks much.

Nope, see the Terms of Service. Self-promotion will be pulled.

Would it be allowed for her to talk about her book in a general sense, without mentioning the title, etc?

Perhaps she can also tell us about her writing career, what got her interested in writing, etc, etc.

You know.....in a general sense.

Another thought occurred to me. Would short excerpts be allowed to be posted in the Original Writing forum?

Without mentioning, of course, that she has a book for sale containing said excerpts.

If someone posts original writing, it's original writing. If there's no purchase or website link, that doesn't matter to the Mod team. But, practically speaking, if a person was selling a book, it'd be pretty dang foolish for them to offer up chunks of it for free without a means of directing people to sell it. Hence we have no problem with that but the chances of it ending up on the site are pretty tiny.

As for discussing the process of writing, people do that all the time in the O.W. forum. Again, just so long as there's no push to sell the writing or visit a personal website, I suppose it's fine. But I would have to see how it's executed. One thing I have learned in my years Modding here is that self-promotion takes an infinite variety of formats and, just when we think we have the methods all down, someone, somewhere, comes up with something new. Which we pull.

Hence I reserve judgment until/unless we see such things.

I'm honestly not trying to come up with news ways - and I sure do not want to come up with any new dumb luck ways.

I was wondering what if I made the national or international news headlines? Wink

I'm a brilliant super-genius, and redundant, too.

Is that self-promoting enough?

They wouldn't even let me post a link to a blog about my kid....

I still think they're stinkers for that.
