Missed this little tidbit...

So, are you primarily talking about relegion, or a belief in a creator/supreme being?

Religion itself. Primarily abrahamic.

oh yeah - organized religions suck.

There's that line from Sting....

Men go crazy in congregations, they only get better one by one.

I'm not changing the subject, but the aspect of socializing you mention.
I've heard of these mega churches, that have something like 10,000 people there each Sunday.

I'm sorry, that's not worship, that's 6 flags atlantis.

whether you believe in a supreme being or not, we all need to sometimes get into a quiet place within ourselves.

That is quite concordant with my opinions.

I AM my church.

hmmmm,

I'm not a church.

Church implies a group, even a small one, meaning more than one, with some type of agreement on beliefs.

I just am.

Well, to me church implies pace of worship or holy place.

What you are thinking of is 'congregation', and I am truly a congregation of one Smile

Congregation

Latin root - con
Meaning - come together

Latin root - greg
Meaning - flock herd

A flock or herd coming together. More than one.

I'm not a church, or a congregation. Just me.

I see your point on the first page, but you're talking about relegion, a church.

I tend to overintellectualize as well.

Don't say you didn't notice. Smile

One of the reasons I like my friend Joe Sixpack is that his simple outlook towards life keeps me well grounded in reality.

Very interesting topic, Doc. I've discussed this with my boyfriend many times. He thinks of religion as entirely a bad thing that does nothing but give humans more reasons to find differences among each other, more reasons to hate, and more excuses for being weak. I think there are positives about it in some ways. But just curious, on the whole don't you think we'd be better off if we moved past the need for religion? It seems that many of the positives you list are crutches for human frailties... I guess I'm still wondering if you really percieve all the things you listed as positives, or if you were being a bit facetious?

What is 'positive' is relative to the perspective of the perceiver.
Personally, I see many of those 'positives' as downright reprehensible.
