Red symbolism of the Chippewa

I am a sophomore in college and I have just read The Red Convertible by Louise Erdrich. The characters in the story are Chippewa. I have been given a assignment for my final exam and I need to know if anybody can tell what red symbolizes in the Chippewa culture?

You'd be better off asking for an answer in the References section higher up. This is more of a discussion forum.
