Prior to COVID, I used to donate a fair amount of books to the Housing Works as well as Goodwill. The same goes on borrowing books from the NYPL and the Brooklyn Public Library.

I now drop books into one of a couple neighborhood free library street boxes. Maybe I'll get back in the habit of borrowing library books.
