Friend Who Is Agnostic

Well I've noticed that he was saying God's name in vain so I asked him.

ME: tell me Taylor.. do you want to go to hell?

HIM: I don't want to, I never said I wanted to

ME: no, but I mean... you cuss, you use God's name in vain, and idk if what we were doing was REALLY REALLY wrong but I asked someone on the message board about the situation and someone said that I might as well be going to hell... and I don't want to go to hell and I don't want you too either.... nvm just sorry for bringing it up I'm a stupid person

HIM: look, I don't even really believe in God, at the moment I am agnostic and I have no problem with that, until I see some proof about God or anything, im not changing my beliefs. There is just to many things that don't work out in the bible, and besides how can like 100 different religions be wrong and just one be right, have thoughs people been going to hell since there religions developed. Even if I did take up religion again, I know that I wouldn't stick with it, I would just end up being a hypocrite, and im not going to be one of those

HIM: I am not trying to get into an argument with you about religion, I am just telling you my views

I have no idea what to do, I really want to help him. He used to go to church.

IF you truly want to help him, you'll let him figure things out for himself. If you try and evangelize him, he will NEVER come back to the Christian religion or any in general (which certainly isnt a bad thing).

So i would just support his current beliefs, whether or not you are friends is not dependant on you being of the same religion.

Say, Delicate, could you, like, explain what the hell you're trying to say in simple language? It's okay if you use short words. And, btw, your friend Taylor's beliefs or lack of beliefs are none of your beeswax.

Yeah, I suppose your right. I don't want him to go to hell though. Will he?

I don't know what has changed him or why he decided to believe this, it just really bothers me.

Do you pledge yourself to a petty, vain, and vindictive deity? If not, then you probably don't have to worry that your friend's shift in belief will earn him an eternity of damnation.

Your friend's modification in belief is fairly common--many people raised with dogmatic beliefs question those beliefs, usually as a result of the logical inconsistencies and hypocrisy present in most dogmatic belief systems. His change is probably a sign of positive psychological and moral growth.
