I suggest you are a long way from your telephone exchange which has a great bearing on the speed of computer related transmissions. My exchange is only 1 km from my place of abode, but go another 6 kilometers further out and the people have no broadband at all, and they live in a city!

Indeed, because of it the world has become extremely small, it is a great means of fast communication. Just these few lines will take a week per "snail mail" but now just a second.
