I came across a newbie who wrote his E Mail address on his thread.
http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1658743
In the past, when I saw a new member do that, I would write to him, and warn him of the dangers of posting an E Mail address on the internet, and suggest that he remove it.
Now I have answered his post, and he can't edit it.
What would you guys suggest that we do in a case like this?
Perhaps not adding to the problem by giving a reference to the thread so even more people can see it
i guess send a PM instead if nobody posted yet after the poor soul. if someone did, send a PM suggesting to him/her to contact the mods and ask that the post be removed... (?) can that be done? i suppose so. it will be more work for the mods, for sure.
I know, but now they have 2 incidents to find instead of one.
The change was supposed to prevent duplicate postings, well it's not working. I just made a double post, and others have too.
Craven has addressed that, AE, on the thread with the announcement about it, on the forum help yhread.
Phx, the deal, as I understand it, with having the email being picked up by spybots is that is very pickupable when given in its usual form. I gather it isn't if one adds a space somewhere, or uses at instead of @.
(Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this!)
Ask the newbie to send a note to the mods through the Help Desk. He or she can access the Help Desk by clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of any page.
PS If a space or whatever is put into a posted email address, it slows down spammers but may not stop more determined ones. It's not that tough to write a program to pick up addresses and simply delete all spaces in them.
