For those of you who don't already know, Letty, a dear member of a2k, lost her husband today(Nov.2). He passed away after a bout with an illness. I'm afraid I don't know the details. She mentioned it on the "wa2k radio" thread, but I thought that those of you who know and love her here on Trivia & Word Games might want to give her your support, prayers, love and / or sympathy.

We are here in support of you, Letty. We want you to know how much you are loved, card for, and thought of in your time of loss. I hope you can feel a big a2k hug coming your way, because we do care so very much about you and yours. God bless you, Letty.

I want to dedicate these two poems to Letty husband, and to a neighbor who I just found out today passed on last Friday.

When I Am Dead, My Dearest

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

~Christina Rossetti

When Death Comes

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

to buy me, and snaps his purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle pox;

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering;
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth
tending as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was a bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.

~Mary Oliver

The poem When Death Comes, fourth stanza "I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering; what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?". Reminds me of a conversation I had with a good friend of mine some time ago. I was telling him about the memory of being in my mothers womb, and he was telling me about the memory of his last passing on. He was surrounded by his family, a son was holding his hand, and when it was time, he said, "what is next", and he died. He felt himself rush through a tunnel, find himself in a womb ready to be born again. I think this is how we should look at dying "what is next", and move on with wonder and curiosity.

Dear Letty, I'm so sorry to hear of Bud's passing. I'm spending a few days at a convent on the shores of Lake Michigan on retreat. It seems fitting to be here, in this quiet place, to send you my deepest condolences. I'll say a special prayer for Bud and for your continued strength as I walk the labyrinth at sunset.

Lots of condolences are on Letty's radio thread.

Since she might not have noticed this one, I emailed her about it.
(But like most others, she might have trouble to get to A2K, too.)
