Punishment for adultery according to Sri lankan Hindus...

..unfortunately I do not have the answer, but following a conversation with a friend, can anyone tell me / point me to a reliable source that would clarify what exactly is the punishment for adultery for both Hindu men and women? I've stated 'Sri lankan' in the subject because apparently the religions slightly differ from country to country...

Thank you for any help!

I think you need to clarify your question a little more.

Is your question about Hindu law? Is it about Sri Lankan law? Hindu law is a personal law, the legal system of Sri Lanka is applicable to all Sri Lankans of whatever religion (although as I understand it there are different statutes in Sri Lanka which are meant to apply to different sectors of the population, eg the small Muslim population has statutes which affect only it).

If you could clarify then someone might be able to help a bit more.

OK:

1. What is the punishment for adultery according to Hinduism (as in universally)?

2. What is the punishment for adultery according to Sri Lankan law?

Better?

Universal law for adultery in Hinduism -

Hinduaism considers Adultery a Sin which essentially adds into evil side of the balance of moralilty or balance of good and bad deeds in done in one's cycle of life on earth.

But there is no direct punishment that Hindu religion assigns for adultery. The punishment is after death when your souls reach Moksha or heaven and Hell depending upon your balance of morality.

So a person performing adultery can be get a benefit if he had been a loyal soul throught his life. The greatest example can be Dharmraj who had to lie to his Guru Dronacharya for making him stop his war craft in the great war of Mahabharata. He was assigned heaven though.

But as a general law of hinduism the punishment for adultery is generally assigned by Lord (this can be Elders, Master, King or ultimate God) when found guilty or Fate.
