I know alot of people ,
who feel otherwise on this subject. I personally feel that if the whale is in a decent sized pool, has the ability to socialize with its own kind, is not constantly being forced to do a show or deprived of food as a "time out" , also to have trainers that know when to "save face" when the whale is being uncooperative and is being taken care of really well then okay fine. However, Places like Miami Seaquarium is no place for an orca. A small pool, no other orcas, constantly being pushed to do a show and has no space to just move anywhere is just completely bad.
But voice your opinion on this:
How do you feel if someone created a place where old and non show whales and dolphins can be residents. None will be performing and if possibly the thought of release will be a priority if the animal is actually wild born. Yet if we can teach whales and dolphins behaviors, how can we not retrain them? My opinion on Keiko is this- Keiko was not a good candidate why?- because he has never socialized with other orcas. The orcas at SEAWORLD have been around other whales so they can actively socialize and use their echolocation.
Just think about it. Put a seaworld orca in Keiko's position. Wouldn't you think their survival within a pod would be much better?
