Hi all...

Your trip is definitely wetting my appetite.
We are booking our tickets this week. We will be travelling for 29 hours each way from Edmonton through Toronto, Amsterdam onto Delhi, then from Dehli to Bangkok and home again via Tokyo and Vancouver. Whew! I'm tired already. Shocked

As every day passes, I'm learning more and more of what to expect from our trip. I've just learned I'm going to two weddings, both are Sikh and one is to be a village wedding with horses, sadly no elephants. I've been warned about the noise, the congestion, the smells, the traffic, the heat and I can hardly wait. I've read the many pages and I'm delighted to hear you both are having a great time. When you come back I'll probably want to pepper you with questions.

Bon voyage...

I'm not surprised 58 hours constant travel would tire anyone out. Have a good trip.

Thanks McT for handing over, I had a nice fresh lime and water while waiting but in Kochi it seems you can only have beer if you call it special tea and it comes in a teapot surreptitouslike...

Surreptious beer in a teapot. Blue Laws?

The island trip sounds fantastic -- I don't quite understand why you can only go to one... is that because of the ecology or ???

Glad there have been no stomach upsets.

Absolutely COOL that Ceili is going on a round-the-world trip. Great idea! Ceili have a great time (and tell us all about your travels, please).

Ha ha...oops that should read.

Ok It's more like 29hrs to Delhi and 29hrs from Bangkok home. With a short 4 hour flight in between the Asian capitals.

I will post more when I can. I'm still a little short on the details as I'm still in the planning mode. I go for my shots next week. ouch! I'm gleaming information every where I can. We are meeting several friend in India and I have a feeling I'm not going to be left with a boring schedule, but I want to venture out and see more. So, I read, and talk, and listen and I hope with the coming weeks I'll be able to plan an itinerary of sorts.
Thailand is an open book. Absolutely no idea what I'll do. We have two weeks in both places so the possibilities are endless yet limited. For now though, I'm content to read and dream.

Oooh, been catching up on the trip! We've had major electrical problems at my house - fried a bunch of small appliances including the GOOD computer! Glad to hear you are both well and warm. (I'm so jealous!) I'm travelling vicariously!

Great trip planned, Ceili, weddings are fun, especially if you let yourself go with the flow and decide not to mind things like noise!

Today we went to spice warehouses, one of which had women drying and curing ginger root with lime, the chemical not the fruit, for Ayurvedic medicine - a whole courtyard full, it smelt great! I got some little boxes of saffron as presents - about the lightest thing I can think of to carry - and coriander. McT's apples mentioned above were probably imported, whereas bananas are all around us - hence the difference in price.
I don't know why foreigners can only go to one island, it's a restricted area, partly for ecological reasons but I suspect also for military ones. You can see a bit about the islands on http://www.keralagreenery.org/isles.html
I am going to the island called Kadmath.

Vinsan, you must come this way soon! And you can visit the other islands, like Minicoy and Agatti.

About time for a prawn curry and red rice.. and a siesta... enjoy the winter!! Very Happy

Yes the spice warehouse was great, very aromatic, and with more spices than I ever knew existed. Most impressive and interesting.

Impressive and interesting in a different way was the Jain Temple...I went in there with our driver (showing me round) and they allowed me to take photographs. It is a lovely place, quite a big group of buildings, and the people there were very accommodating and friendly.

Now, taking it easy, staying out of the sun, actually am under a fan in a cybercafe, and have arranged to meet my companion for dinner at eight...that's in about six hours' time.

Ah, the life of the idle rich. This is definitely the best way to spend winter!

Later

McT

Okay the prince, I am hoping to get back to Mumbai around 11th or 12th Dec, whereafter I hope to see Vinsan and Shadi, another friend. Don't forget to tell us where you are so we can have a drink or whatever on the 14th before we fly back that night (2 a.m. on the 15th)

Clary will probably be staying in Parel with her friend and I at the Heritage in Byculla if I can get in, the one I used before.

I am staying at the Hyatt, which is very close to the airport. I suggest we meet there on the 14th (I have a formal dinner on the 14th, but should be able to finish by 2130). McTag and Clary can then leave directly from there to catch their flight.

Vin, don't have yr number mate, but I guess Clary/McTag will contact you anyways

quite remarkable really to think of you two in India chatting with people around the world. I did a bit of web searching on Lakshadweep, had never heard of the place before, thanks. Are you going to go diving Clary?

Its milder here today, normal sort of November temperatures, but still a lot of leaves on the trees. Just seen a fox in the garden, called the emergency fox hunting number, but then realised its been abolished....

No it was a fox, definitely. The leopard is upstairs on the bed asleep.

All those time differences and date confusions due to the www - we've December here already - although sunny (5°C) and lots of leaves on the trees as well.

I dont like December. I have never formally recognised it as a sovereign month of the year. Today is the 31st November, and on November 61st at 12 midnight, it becomes Janurary. I thought every one knew this.

Gorgeous... no wonder you want to go. I point out that the links you provided offered a couple of other islands but apparently you need an entry permit and maybe that takes some time to process?

For example:
Quote:
Lakshadweep Island Packages by SHIP to Agatti Island :

APS-01
05 Nights / 06 Days Holiday package to Lakshadeep islands with stay at Agatti Resort, Agatti Island.
Price : Rs. 22,900 ( US$ 585 / GBP 375 / EURO 525 ) for two adults in a Non A/c Beach Cottage / Room
Price : Rs. 35,000 ( US$ 886 / GBP 568 / EURO 972 ) for two adults in a Deluxe A/c Beach Cottage / Room
The package cost is inclusive of the following :
Accommodation for two adults in a non a/c cottage / Room
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Excursion by boat to visit Thinakkara, Paroli I & II islands
Glass bottom boat sail
Daily Kayaking
Lagoon fishing
Entry permit
Ship fare from Cochin to Agati island & back
All applicable taxes

Sounds like a good deal. Inclusive and less than $200 for two adults per night including transportation for the deluxe accommodations.

The spice processing sounds great.

I hope you all get to meet on the 14th! Take PICTURES!!!!!!! (please) How else can we live vicariously?
