"Our worst fears came true," said Maj. Barry Guidry, a National Guardsman on duty at the broken levee. "We have three significant breaches in the levee and the water is rising rapidly."

Finally - The Channel 11 weatherman agrees that the storm will come in on the east side of the area (Port Arthur, Beaumont).

Will Austin be affected seriously, or is it at a safe enough distance inland?

"High" winds (20-30 mph) and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Although now the chance of rain has dropped even further.

edger. According to the weather radar I'm watching the leading edge of the rain bands of Rita should be passing over you right about now. So hunker down, keep safe, and best of luck.

We have had a little wind now. It comes and goes. Time to have dinner and then head on to the apartment we have waiting. I will check in one last time before leaving.

I don't recall where, but I stumbled across this image earlier...

I'm not sure if it's relative to the subject at hand, but it must mean something.

But what?

it's a fascinating portrait, ehbeth already made note of hazel earlier, but it was a strong storm all the way into the niagra penninsula, so these things are not to be ignored or denegrated
