share the most healing/comforting stanzas you know of... could be religious or otherwise....

i'll start - with the lyrics of a non-religious song, though religion triggered it off, sort of.

the song is "every grain of sand" by bob dylan, last song of "shot of love" album. when dylan discovered christianity, he wrote this song, and i guess it was just after his wife for 14 years sarah had divorced him and left him very devastated.

dylan himself needed some "healing" - and came up with this most healing of songs !!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There's a dyin' voice within me reaching out somewhere,
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair.

Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake,
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.

Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear,
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer.
The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay.

I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name.
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand.

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light,
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space,
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face.

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me.
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you."

"What wondrous love is this?
Oh my soul, oh my soul.
What wondrous love is this?
Oh my soul.
What wondrous love is this
that caused the lord of bliss
to send this perfect peace to my soul
oh my, oh my soul, oh my soul.

When I was sinking down
Oh my soul, oh my soul
When I was sinking down
Oh my soul.
When I was sinking down
I stopped and looked around
And there I heard the sound
Of my soul, oh my, oh my soul
Oh my soul...

To god and to his man,
I will sing, I will sing
To god and to his man
I'm gonna sing
To god and to his man
Who is afraid? I am not.
What wondrous love is this?
Oh my soul, oh my, oh my soul
Oh my soul...

And when from death I'm free
I'll sing on, I'll sing on
And when from death I'm free
I'll sing on.
And through eternity, I'll sing and joyful be-
What wondrous love is this?
Oh my soul, oh my, oh my soul,
Oh my soul...."

Yeah, Bob Dylan can be a great comfort to the soul. I used to love listening to the old "blood on the tracks' vinyl.

Even though I'm not a christian, I like listening to gospel and country music when I need a 'lift'. Also, tribal music with no words. And jazz. Uhh: music is great for healing! Razz

Sometimes I break out the christmas tunes (the old opera singers and jazz).
It doesn't matter what time of year it is.

Here'a song by Helloween (haha, I know, I know) that makes me feel sane and comforted :

...........chorus part.......
well, your life seems quite bizarre

In the sky a mighty eagle
doesn't care about what's illegal
On his wings the rainbow sky
He's flying to eternity

Eagle fly free
Make people see
Just make it your own way
Leave time behind
Follow the sign
Together we fly
someday.

From Craven's profile - a poem to let us know we are not really so alone:

ALONE
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were I have not seen
As others saw I could not bring
My passions from a common spring
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone
And all I lov'd I lov'd alone
Then in my childhood in the dawn
Of a most stormy life was drawn
From ev'ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still
From the torrent, or the fountain
From the red cliff of the mountain
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In its autumn tint of gold
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass'd me flying by
From the thunder, and the storm
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view
E. A. Poe

All is quiet on New Year's Day.
A world in white gets underway.
I want to be with you, be with you night and day.
Nothing changes on New Year's Day.
On New Year's Day.

I... will be with you again.
I... will be with you again.

Under a blood-red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspaper says, says
Say it's true, it's true...
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one.

I... I will begin again
I... I will begin again.

Oh, oh. Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
Oh, maybe the time is right.
Oh, maybe tonight.
I will be with you again.
I will be with you again.

And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
