CPT Robert M. Losey, US Army Air Corps, was the first American serviceman killed in WW2. He was an air attaché at the American embassy in Finland, CPT Losey was killed during a Russian air raid on April 21, 1940.

During the Pearl Harbor invasion, a Japanese fighter crash landed on a small island. There were 140 inhabitants three of them of Japanese descent. The three Japanese Hawaiians began defending the fighter-pilot, shooting one Hawaiian, and attempting to help the airman escape the Island.
The US Navy studied this in depth. The bottom line, Japanese have a very strong allegiance to their motherland.
