12. Secret Military History

1917-0615, Gender, Female Nurses.
In 1901, the US Army forms the Army Nurse Corps. This is the first-time women were allowed on Active-Duty in the Military.

1917-0615, Race, 65-Black Soldiers Mutiny.
At Fort Bliss, Texas, they refused to fall in at morning formation:
All were charged with mutiny.
All were found guilty.
All were sentenced to 15-years in the brig.

1917-0630, Gender, the First US Female Officially in Uniform.
Being first is very important to women. PVT Ruth Law was the very first US female legally in military uniform. She bought her first airplane from Orville Wright in 1912 at age 21. She is the first woman to do a loop-the-loop. She is the first woman authorized to wear a uniform by the US Military.
Ruth Law even saw combat in WW1. She was sent to Europe - directly to the battle fronts to gain firsthand knowledge of the actual fighting. She returned with enthusiasm and on June 30, 1917, she enlisted in the US Avn Corps, as a recruiting officer. She was responsible for recruiting male fighter pilots.

1917-0929, Race, WW1, the Black Rattlers.
Because it was against the law for white and black troops to serve together, the colored men of the 369th Infantry Regiment were given a choice: return home or be reassigned to the French army.
They chose the latter and became the first regiment in US history to serve with a foreign army.

1917-1120, Gay, Lawrence of Arabia Captured by the Turks.
T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) held prisoner, whipped and raped by Turkish Army officers. He thoroughly enjoys the experience.

1918-0615, Sex, the First, US Military, Blue Falcon, Sex Snitch.
Fiancé Investigation League (Sharks). It was 1918, the end of WW1, the Yanks were in France supporting their allies. But for the ladies left back at home, some of those alliances were a little too close.
American women were concerned about their young Soldiers being snatched up by the “wicked, matrimonially inclined maidens of France.” They formed the FIL, for the purposes of investigating the faithfulness of their men and to protect them from the wiles of the French mademoiselles.
SGT Lloyd H. Knutson was the first Blue Falcone in uniform. He enlisted just to aid the Race, by being an Undercover Agent (UA, Shark) in the American Expeditionary Forces of France.
