Medicaid Cuts

Medicaid cuts under Trump's big beautiful bill are being discussed, but what are the cuts? Will Medicaid now pay fewer dollars for a hospital stay or an operation?

The only thing I know of is the work requirement, which is not onerous.

It may involve excessive paperwork, resulting in a person losing coverage. Medicaid should simplify the paperwork.

@gollum,
Many small hospitals in rural areas only remain operational because of the Medicaid reimbursements they receive for treating patients under the program.

They've been making cuts all along. My wife, with Medicare and Medicaid had knee surgery. They treated her well and gave her enough time to get walking before releasing her. Almost a year later she had the second knee done. Same doctor, same hospital. One of the attending doctors mentioned "We are not a charity." We found out the truth of it when they gave her the surgery then sent her home immediately. If I had known I would have prepared for it. She had to
scoot herself up four steps and crawl into the house. How she got up off of the floor I no longer recall.

@edgarblythe,
That's terrible.

Our jnr doctors have just gone on strike over pay meaning consultants have to fill in.

They still provide a service. I'm not a charity case free health care including prescriptions is a hard earned right.

@gollum,
1. Able-bodied Medicaid recipients aged 19–64 must work, volunteer, or study 80 hours per month, with limited exemptions.

2. Medicaid expansion beneficiaries must be re-verified every six months instead of annually; new eligibility verification requirements are added

3. Funding is also restricted for gender‑affirming care, for both adults and minors, and for nonprofits related to abortion services

4. The legislation bans “spread pricing” by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs)—where plan managers charge more than they reimburse manufacturers

@Brandon9000,
It's disgusting.

Free health care is a right in all free countries.

@Brandon9000,
I have read about the terrible cuts, and it may be true (I'm not sure).

The four changes Brandon listed do not appear onerous.

Can verification be done over the Internet? I understand that some Medicaid recipients lose membership based on paperwork problems.

@gollum,
Here are two discussions which outline some of the effects of the cuts:

The Potential Impacts of Cuts to Medicaid

Two health policy experts explain how Medicaid spending cuts could affect health care facilities, clinicians, and services, as well as millions of Americans who depend on the program.Two health policy experts explain how Medicaid spending cuts could affect health care facilities, clinicians, and services, as well as millions of Americans who depend on the program.

How Medicaid cuts could lead to loss of coverage for millions

On July 4, President Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” into law, introducing major changes to Medicaid, the joint federal/state program that provides health insurance to low-income adults and families, people with disabilities, pregnant people, and seniors. Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Benjamin Sommers, Huntley Quelch Professor of Health Care Economics, and Adrianna McIntyre, assistant professor of health policy and politics, share their reactions to the law and discuss potential consequences for Medicaid recipients and the U.S. health care system.

@izzythepush,
I need to qualify what could be argued is an ad hom.

Brandon never argues in good faith. He sets unrealistic rules for others which he does not follow himself. None of his claims are ever sourced yet he demands proof of established facts.

When sources are given, they're not good enough, he demands you write it out in your own words.

He will then arbirarily declare himself the victor in a conversation and then disappear in order to avoid awkward questions.

This time wasting procedure is known as 'sealioning' and it is from the far right playbook.

Others have called him a hypocrite. He is a bad faith actor only interested in pushing Trump's agenda and the only "facts" he will accept are those that support his prejudices.

@izzythepush,
Aside from that, though, he's okay. Smile
