keeping bananas

So I picked out some very nice bananas today. Handled them gently and sent them through the checkout first. Unloading the bags of groceries I discovered the bananas at the bottom of a heavy bag, including a great bag of carrots bought for juicing. I nevertheless cleaned and stored them as per the video. I hope they aren't too bruised.

Sometimes, you have to wonder if those baggers are malicious or just don't have a lot of smarts.

Or both dumb and malicious.

Once I watched a bagger bring my eggs down into the bag rather quickly. He released them about six or eight inches from the bottom. Those eggs has to be broken. As soon as I got outside the building I examined the eggs and sure enough some were broken. I went right back to the checker and said, "He broke the eggs." They got me a replacement. Next time I went in there the guy gave me some ugly looks. But he didn't last there a whole month.

I'm experimenting. I cleaned the bananas according to just step one this time. The fruit remained edible all week, but the last two were softer than I would have liked. Tomorrow I will try to protect them better and will give them the full treatment.

For the second week in a row I haven't been able to find any unripe bananas to do my experiment. Any other time they would be everywhere. I'll try again next week.

The bananas didn't do any better this week. I intend to keep at it until every option has been used up.

Today I finally found some green bananas. I bought a bunch of eight and left four together in a bunch and separated the other four. I put plastic wrap around the ends of two of them and just left the other two. I'll report back when I start seeing any changes in colour.

I keep checking this thread out, and I don't even like bananas.

I may have mentioned this before.

Well if we ever reach some sort of conclusion at least you'll have an in-depth knowledge of banana ripening to dazzle other people with.

My conclusion is, the information in the video has it right. The key to success, however, is to begin with greener bananas than one generally finds at the store.
