Searching & searching A2K...

I needed to find a particular soup recipe from a long ago A2K thread. So I typed in "recipes for soup" into the advanced search box & got some very odd replies, including posts from:

Intelligent Design Theory: Science or Religion?

Then the US/Iraq thread

Huh? Question

Then I tried just plain old "soup".

Same results! Confused

OK, I give up! Laughing

Some advice, please, on how best to use the A2K search facility? How can I find some long lost treasure from an old thread?

(Try the portal for your recipe - a lot of recipes were copied into there. No help with the search thing, I fear.)

Whay kind of soup was it, Msolga?

I got very relevant results when I just searched - but too many!!!

Look at top of page -

Home :: Forums :: Portal :: Gallery :: Shop :: Toolbar

You will see these there.

Click on Portal.

There you will find many things:

Here is the soup section:

Yes, let's see:

Lentils, carrots, celery, coriander, swiss chard, potatoes, tomatoes, cumin, garlic .... that's off the top of my head, Deb. There are more, I'm sure.

It's not the lupini one?

Anyway, as dlowan was getting at, choose a word that is less likely to show up elsewhere. (The search results will include EVERY use of that word, whether in the context of "primordal soup" or "a soupcon of humility" or whatever.)

I'll try swiss chard for you. I'll put "swiss AND chard" in the keywod box, and then put your name in the author box.

^^^^ I laid it out up there.

Only other thing I did was click the "display results as: posts" circle; default is "display results as: topics".

Glad to help! :-D

I kept getting results all over creation when I would search, whether on topics or posts, until left the black dot in the top information box in the Second wee circle. (Can't remember now what it says, something like search all words, or maybe the opposite) That made a big difference. It also helps if you are looking for posts, and you were the person who posted, or you remember who the person was, to put the poster's name in the second box....
