Hello Friends,
I am coming to sydney next month (mid sep) due to a job transfer from singapore and i am very interested to be there. I was there about 5 years back, for about a year (working in victoria road - very close to city hall station - and stayed in Ashfield).
My this office got 4 locations I need to cover. Lane Cove, North Ryde, St. Leonards & Pyrmont. I am coming with my son - 3.5 years old.
Any advice please about which location I should choose that can cover my office (about 30 to 45 minutes by public transport or 20 minutes drive, i prefer) and also got some kindergarden school for my kid ?.
My primary office would be Lane cove and from many web sites like domain.com.au/realestate.com.au/whereis.com.au - this is good location and i should stay near chatwood/aarthur(sure some spell mistake) stations.
I am very much open to ideas as my 1st preference goes to my kids school and we like he goes by short walk.
Thanks & Regards, Mark
somewhere like Drummoyne would seem pretty central.
Sorry - don't have a clue about kids.
Thanks for the response - I will look at Drummoyne. I am arriving sydney on sep 14th and will have a week to search for house, and your this information is well timed

.
Lane Cove - especially near the water is fantastically beautiful, its about 25 mins by bus to the city - North Ryde - where I live, think surburban - lotsa parks and schools, plenty of small shops and a major shopping complex (with 14 cinemas) in it, St. Leonards and Pyrmont - tounching city or inner city - expect it to be very crowded and expensive.
If it were me and work picked up the cost - definitely Lane Cove for decent family living. If its inner city excitement - try Glebe or Balmain.
Lane cove is really nice, a little pricey though, especially if you want to buy a property. We have lived there in the past, and it is certainly conveinient to the city, and has lots of parks etc.
We live in Marsfield, which is a nice, family area...It is maybe 20 minutes into the city (off peak), 15 minutes to Lane Cove (off peak) and right next to North Ryde, maybe 5 minutes?
It is a great place to have little kids, with lots of playgroups, pre schools, church groups etc. There is a big asian population, and Eastwood is close by. Eastwood has many Asian grocers, herbalists etc.
I would recommend Marsfield, rent is maybe $300 a week for a 2 bedroom townhouse, to buy a 2 bedroom townhouse is about $400k... Houses are somewhat more expensive.
Stick to the St Leonards area. You can catch buses from there to Lane Cove/North Ryde and trains into Town Hall to get to Pyrmont (I worked there once... and St Leonards.... and North Ryde/Marsfield...). You could also try Crows Nest - regular buses into the City from there as well - try the White Pages online directory for Pre-schools....
