How many times here on our little (ok not so little) family like forum a2k have we heard the words about how the Muslim community did not/does not condemn the outrageous and inflamatory rhetoric from Muslim fanatics. Not we have Pat Roberston offering the same level (or even more-so) hatred and viiolence pleading for the US to commit national and inter-nation illegal violence on the elected leader of a foreign nation. Pat Roberts is a chirstian, so we are told. Let's hear the crhistain condemnation Pronto!
The news today is full of stories about Pat Robertson of the 700 Club calling for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, democratically elected president of Venezuela. Aside from the obvious question as to the sanity of Robertson, especially given some of his earlier comments, what strikes me most is his similarity to the Mullahs of Iran who issued a fatwa for the assassination of Salman Rushdie, and the islamists who preach hate and terror under the cloak of religion.
In my mind it is Pat Robertson who needs to be "taken out" with swift condemnation of his statements by every Republican who loves his party and his country. For too long, the Republican Party has given a "free-pass" to anyone who claims to be speaking for "Christians", and it is time to stand up and say enough is enough. The tent may be big, but it is not big enough for Pat Robertson and a majority of Americans.
dys, the bear beat you to it.
Lol - at least the galoot is public about it - not like the usual American policy of getting rid of leaders (especially in SA) it doesn't like by stealth.
But - I do hope we get christian leader condemnation.
Anyone heard any yet?
I agree with dlowan's comments.
I cannot believe that this man is a Christian leader. I just hope that the remarks of a madman do not float over to the Christian world as a whole.
The only rebuttal I have heard so far as been Former Sen Bob Dole who said "this is stupid"
But surely killing one man in Venuzeula- a place I can hardly spell, is better than having to start another war and killing lots of people to get the oil?
well yeah Steve it's really just a question of cost/risk anaylsis. or woult that be profit/loss analysis?
I hope NO ONE takes a word Robertson says seriously. But I fear they do.
Let's just send Robertson to Venzuela in a ninja suit.
I just can't get that image out of my head.
It's not quite in the universe of "Let's kill off Christians or Jews or Americans..." but, he should have his stripes...or his Christian Poobah status...jerked without adieu.
I think he must be approaching Geezerhood and forgot to put on his facade that day.

We already get the oil. The United States buys about 60% of Venezuelan production. Robertson is goofier than you thought ! ! !
Agree the US gets the oil courtesy of Chavez.
Thats the whole point of this oil business imo. Its not just getting the stuff, its having control over supply.
Good point, Steve . . . the right wingnuts who rant about Chavez have got their panties in a bunch because a socialist as opposed to a capitalist controls the spigot . . .
