Passiflora incarnata
Check out this site about the weird relationship between Passiflora and the
zebra butterfly. Scroll down.
Great photo. I see seven species (but not incarnata) listed in my field guide to woody plants of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The fruit is used for a popular fruitjuice here called "Maracuya".
thanks Pitter....there is one other species of Passiflora here...Passiflora lutea...same flower structure as incarnata but less colorful...they are woody vines here too if they are allowed to persist...the fruit of either is edible but not very tasty...
Coluber2001...very interesting indeed..thanks for pointing it out
Passiflora incarnata - not just a beautiful flower, but a useful herb as well. Has calming/sedative properties. Grows easily here in Florida.
