I wish to read a book only available in Amazon Kindle format. I do not have a Kindle and would rather not buy one then learn about it.

Is there a way to convert the text to make it readable to me?

@gollum,
There are apps to read Kindle books on just about any device. If you want to read it on an android device, open the play store and search for KINDLE. If you want to do it on a PC, search the Internet for "Kindle for PC" and it will show you how to do it.
