At least he didn't leave his sense of humor on the Other Side of the Veil.
Send my best wishes to Blatham, and ask him if I can have the rest of his cigarettes, since he won't be needing them anymore.
Oh, my God, Lola. What next? I am so sorry, dear, but it sounds as though he will be fine. Believe me, I know the rigors of this. Big hugs to you and Bernie.
What an absolut frightening experience to have.
My best wishes to Blatham and to you Lola.
The first time I met up with Bernie after I had my stroke, he greeted me with "you don't look as bad as I expected." It doesn't take much imagination to come up with what I might say to Bernie when I see him again.
Everybody already got all the good lines. My best to Blatham also.
Lola please give my best Bernie and of course my best to you.
We take our health for granted don't we?
Don't let him smoke anymore, please.
Prayes, good vibes, healing thoughts, all coming in from NC
Wow!
Tell him I was asking about him.
Tell him I was also interested in whether or not he had any cute nurses.
Man, I hate to hear anything that starts 'He's OK, so don't worry..."
Good for you getting him help just in time!
You've built up an inexhaustible supply of "remember when"s to help keep
him in line. Nah, I don't think so, either.
Get well soon, Bernie.
I don't know what to say. Sympathy is being telepatically transmitted this instant.
All the best

Thanks to all of you. You've been very kind and encouraging. Bernie's much better this evening than he was this morning. When I left the hospital (because visiting hours were over) he was sitting up and eating dinner with an appetite and alertness that was encouraging. He's still in ICU and will be until they complete the procedure on Monday, but the doctor told me he was "in the clear" for now.
It's true Bear and others who have mentioned that we take our health for granted. We were youngsters just the other day protesting the war.......now we have to watch what we eat and blah blah blah...........
I'm glad you're doing better too.
Love to all of you.
Good to hear. It is indeed sad when one of the community is stricken with an illness. I hope that a speedy recovery ensues.
Best wishes and prayers with you and Bernie, Lola. The doctors can do literal miracles these days and we hope for a speedy and full recovery.
Well, damn, I am waiting to hear what Bernie writes about all this when he gets his equipoise back in the pen.
Most truly glad to hear he's doing well.
You know, I've often wondered if these threads are helpful to those who are in crisis. But now I know how precious the best wishes and encouragement from friends actually are. Thank you all and I'll be in touch.

And yes, I can't wait to hear either........we're just now piecing together the events of the morning. I'm sure Bernie is going to especially love the jokes about what exactly was really happening when the attack began. It's funny that I remember thinking at the time, "well...........at least Bernie will be proud, either way." Fortunately he appears to be living to tell the tale........and I'm sure it will get taller with age.
