I find your attitude of setting everyone straight in a condescending manner the height of boorishness and in itself a mother to someone else's losing respect for the church because they believe YOU represent all other Christians.

Doesn't matter what church I belong to, I am a christian. Nitpicking religions is a walk through the park with sophists. I refuse to fall into that trip, let alone the fact I've mentioned what Church I follow MANY, MANY times.

Business's names that use religious symbols (except restaurants offering ethnic or specialized menus. Like "Praise Jesus Tire Co" that I used to pass on the way to work living in Phoenix.

The overly religious are very much in the minority here,anything like that would be counter productive.

People don't want to have to start talking about God when they're going about their daily lives.

That's us though, for all the pomp and ceremony of an established church and a royal family we're not a religious people. It's a national haracteristic, Chaucer mocked religious figures in the Canterbury Tales remorselessly.

Falstaff is a good indicator. He is an awful villain and a crook, but he is a favourite literary character because he has three qualities the English admire.

He appreciates good living, is witty and irreverent.

Now I can see how many cultures would appreciate good living and humour, but irreverence is another matter.

A few years ago I saw a video recording of the play Iranian Nights, written shortly after the fatwa was placed on Salman Rushdie.

It is very good, looking at the British Muslim experience, through different generations. One line that really stood out was attributed to the prophet Mohammed.

So I've been quiet in this forum so far, but at this point, I'm seriously wondering why everyone is so bent out of shape.

Look guys, Muslims and Jews are being foolish. Muslims literally have an end tines prophecy that Allah will kill all pigs. Jews live in fear that one day they might by accident eat pork, and avoid it almost as scrupulously as avoiding mixing dairy and meat.

Don't you realize this is idolatry? This is literally just pig meat. Yes, if it's prepared wrong you can get worms. Neither is pork that great. I don't get the bacon craze.

God gave the Jews idols because they weren't able to worship him. Idols to avoid, idols to exalt. The Ark of the Covenant or the Temple are no different from an irrational fear of piggies.
