Lets not mistake this for bonsai kitten -now that is not cruel, but a work of art and the kittens love it – just refer to my former discussion here:
https://able2know.org/topic/44188-15

However, I am speaking about plant/tree bonsai type and the horrible life these little “trees” have to endure. These are not really natural trees. Instead it is a technique whereby the grower, over a period of time, trains the seedling through pruning and wiring, into the desired shape. Growing bonsai is cruel.

You stunt their growth…don’t allow the roots to grow, bind their branches with wire, like the feet of Japanese ladies.

Lets get a real petition going to stop this cruel “art” and save our trees!

@Linkat,
How about the cruel people who cut flowers from plants to stick in vases? I mean, some people like children, but we don't cut their heads off and bring them inside for decorations.

In the Doctor Who story with Tom Baker, The Seeds of Death Bonsai is mentioned.

It's about alien plant life that takes over all vegetable matter on a planet and wipes out the animals.

The main villain is a plant loving millionaire who before the seeds were discovered would write letters complaining about the torture of Bonsai trees.

@izzythepush,
Do you have Tom Bakers contact information? I think having a millionaire behind this will help in the cause.

@Linkat,
I don't but Tom Baker's doctor said of the plant loving millionaire trapped in a mincer, "I was trying to pull him out, but he was trying to pull me in."

He ends up being minced up and his bodily fluids pumped into the garden to feed the plants.

Populations of wild naugas have been decimated as the world's appetite for their durable hides remains undiminished.

I'd like people to stop killing butterflies for their butter.

And it's high time to stop killing animals for their meat when nowadays you can just go to a supermarket and buy it...

Very sad indeed.

But on the positive his life does go on via the plants his fluids have fed.

Ha - everyone turns against the villain. It is like bigotry. Villainotry I call it! It depends on your point of view. I remember going to Florida (yes Disney area) for a conference years ago when my kids were little. I did not visit the parks as I was there for work, but I did go to what was called at the time Disney village. I purchased a book for my youngest daughter who at the time loved Snow White.

When you turn the book over, there is another story from the Queen's point of view. This book tells the "villains" side of the story - in this case I learned that business about the 'evil' Queen giving Snow White a poisoned apple? Well, per the Queen herself, she was actually a health nut who was only concerned that her stepdaughter wasn't getting the proper nutrition!

So after that my little one learned there are always two sides to the story so when she at just under 3 met the "evil" queen herself she went right up to her not scared a bit and asked her "Can I do whatever I want?"

yep made that queen crack a smile - and then she went right back to her regal character.

So long story short - I doubt this was a good thing - you are just coming from it from a different perspective. Just ask the bonsai trees how they feel about this great man's untimely death!

@Linkat,
So it would have been better if the Krynoids had won and wiped out all animal life on Earth?

I'm sorry I got the name wrong, it's not the Seeds of Death, that's an ice warriors adventure with the very best Doctor, Patrick Toughton.

The one with Tom Baker and the Krynoids is Seeds of Doom.

@izzythepush,
I can't say I haven't seen the story - and there is always another side to the story - maybe you have been fooled to believe this would have happened maybe like the queen only wanting snow white to eat healthier - this man was trying to provide cleaner air to earth by promoting plant growth and was not trying to wipe out animal life.

@Linkat,
He was the tool of an alien plant which did want to wipe out all animal life on Earth.

I'd like to meet this plant. Was it a bonsai? Going have to try to find this and watch. Sounds like a twilight zone episode.

@Linkat,
It's Doctor Who. Two seeds were found in Antartica, the pod infects a human subject and starts turning into a Krynoid.

One seed did it in Antartica and failed because it was so cold. A billionaire botanist secured the other and infected one of his servants with it.

Warning: depiction of extreme violence

I heard a persistent loud BOOM, BOOM, BOOM from a field not far from my house and when I went to investigate I was horrified. A bunch of armed people were slaughtering little skeets – their broken remains littered the wet spring grass. I even got of picture of one little guy just as he met his brutal end:

I guess I'll just never understand how people can be so cruel.

@hightor,
When I was a kid - I used to worry that walking on the grass hurt it. I could almost hear the soft screams of the grass.
