New poll results: 70% of Americans approve of war, Journey top band of all time
New York Times/CBS News poll shows growing public support for President, power ballads
Washington -- With the war in Iraq underway, several polls show President Bush's approval rating claiming as high as 79 percent and rock outfit Journey the top musical group of all time.
"Clearly, the numbers are right here in black and white on how Americans stand on the issues. A huge majority of Americans support the President, Journey is the best band of all time, and the most favored gift is a Big Mouth Billy Bass talking fish," said Marc Racicot, chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Despite the poll results, a silent minority has been taking to the streets to spread their anti-war message. Some even dispute the poll results and question how the data is collected. "Uh, I didn't vote in any poll, so I'm not sure where those numbers come from" said Jamie Hertz, an anti-war protestor. "I'm certainly against the war, and Journey -- don't make me gag!"
Sony Music, Journey's record-label, reported miniscule sales of the group's albums over the last several months, but added that they were delighted to be "America's favorite choice."
Skeptics of the usefulness of poll data point out several so-called problems with the poll system used by major media outlets. "Since most polls are administered over the phone, and most sophisticated people have caller-ID these days, and they don't answer 'unknown' calls because they value their time, they don't take part in these polls at all," said Hertz.
"You just can't argue with the data," blasted Racicot when confronted with the possibility of inaccurate polling results. "It says right here that Pabst Blue Ribbon is America's favorite beer, Rush Limbaugh is America's most-trusted media personality, and NASCAR is America's favorite pastime, after praying."
I think there's a direct and opposite correlation between telephone polls and internet polls. They're both wrong.
