Hi, I am an overseas student. I have been Australia for almost two years. You won't believe if I say I don't make any local friends around my age within these two years. But it is true! I don't know why. I heard Aussie are very friendly before I came. The fact is young people are polite but not active to help overseas students--I guess this is because lack of patience to communicate with overseas students (Obvious my english is not good).

I used to show my passion to my neighbour but they never respond. Really made me frustrated.

Crying or Very sad I just feel a little bit disappointed. I really want to have deep understanding in the whole Australia culture and society. But without local friends, it is hard to go.

Have you joined any campus clubs or societies - or any off campus?

Have you invited any people you go to lectures and tutorials with for a cup of coffee?

Tried visiting the university bar?

Lots of our friends when I was a student were Asian - but that was a long time ago.

It must be hard for you in a foreign country - but, while there are some horrible racist people in Australia, I would expect that a bit of effort, and not giving up, will help you start to make friends.

Not in campus. But joined off campus, where friends usually are old people.

Oh - well, join some young people's clubs!!!

What are your interests? Which city are you in?

Here's a thought! Dragon boating is very popular in Australia - and los of Dragon boaters like Chinese culture - thought of getting into that?

My interest is Flash website design, learning english, games (e.g. Age of Empires)...
Is there any club regarding these sort of things?
