Could drinking diet soda lead to diabetes?

Is this how it is caused:

1) You drink Diet Coke causing your pancreas to put insulin into your bloodstream.

2) Next, there is no sugar for the insulin to attach to.

3) Resulting in excess insulin in your bloodstream.

4) The excess insulin in your bloodstream causes your body to store fat.

5) Your pancreas loses effectiveness from all its work putting insulin into your bloodstream because of all the Diet Coke you drank and your cells become insulin resistant.

@gollum,
Are you sure?

How do you know drinking a diet drink causes the body to release insulin?

Have you researched this or are you making assumptions?

@gollum,
Quote:
When we eat food, glucose is absorbed from our gut into the bloodstream, raising blood glucose levels. This rise in blood glucose causes insulin to be released from the pancreas so glucose can move inside the cells and be used.

No glucose, no insulin.

@izzythepush,
I am not sure, that is why I ask the fine ladies and gentlemen of able2know.org such as yourself.

I have a source but I am not sure if my source is correct.

@engineer,
Thank you, yours is a very helpful Posting.

Would it be best to avoid or minimize carbohydrates and eat proteins and fats?

I think most health "experts" (or possible experts, it is hard to know), advise a diet largely of plant-based food (e.g., fruit & vegetables). Fruits & vegetables are largely carbohydrates.
